HOW CAN I KEEP FROM DRINKING?

My life flowed on in endless song
Of pain and lamentation
But a joyful sound above the throng
The call of sweet libation

Through all the tumult and the strife
That gets my soul a-sinking
The joy a dram confers in life
How can I keep from drinking?


Though doubting thoughts torment my soul

The joy the bottle giveth.

No storm disturbs my inmost calm

I lift mine eyes, the cloud grows thin
