I'm trying to lure birds to a new feeder. I put it on the other side of the driveway because when it is nearer the kitchen window they perch in a shrub that gets kind of beaten up.

This is a difficult time of year to get through even if your house hasn't burned down, so pamper yourselves when you can, and spend time with friends and loved ones (these terms aren't mutually exclusive) to build up your emotional stamina.
