Good tips. I know about and use that bookmarks drag and drop one. My bookmarks are all very neatly organized but it still doesn't help with the excesses. Of course I CAN'T throw any of them away!

I don't seem to have three barred arrows, only two: one is the tool bar, the other the location window. It could be the difference between the Mac and Windows versions

I have tried out many picture cataloguers and find that iView(http://www.hotcakes.demon.co.uk) does everything all the others do but easier and better. Saving space now, threw away almost all others. Windows people I've talked to seem to like Thumbs Plus. I tried the Mac beta and found it very Windows-like (which is not a compliment) Thanks for the info
