Would you be so harsh if it was your very own "missing child, adult ..." (perhaps not your own "floppy-eared puppy", but no one brought puppies into the equation before your post). Could you try to put yourself in another's place? Would you not care if that missing person was someone you dearly love, care for, and is an integral part of your life and existence, someone you share a house with, maybe a bed with? Would you not go to the ends of the Earth to find that person who you brought into the world, or brought you into the world, or who you loved enough to marry?
