Terrible to think how many people have been killed in road accidents because of roads that aren't being gritted..along with so many who have broken bones from slipping on untreated pavements.

A couple of suggestions from Vermont:

1) Get a pair of those gizmos that slip on over your boots and have steel cleats for ice. If they aren't available in Britain, get LL Bean to ship overseas.

2) Drive more slowly. (I readily admit that this only helps if everyone does it, but you gotta start somewhere.)
