Now thoroughly confused...

My only question is, if the Roy & Dale version is by Jack Elliott, then why did Jack and Mary Ann Owens record it, especially if Mary Ann wrote a different song by the same title? Is it the same song or not?

Here's a possibility...on at least one occasion Elliott added new lyrics to a song by someone else for its use in one of Roy's pictures. Maybe that's why he received credit for this one.
