Whatever you think of footballers, it does not take much courage to shoot at a bus full of unarmed people. Manuel Adebeyor, who plays for Manchester City, said that several players want to return home. I can understand that. However, it would be gratifying to seem them rise above this and use sport for its real purpose. Some good could come out of this horrible incident.
Shooting a bus driver, or anyone else, who is just going about their job, is contemptible whoever does it. And that goes whether it is a "freedom fighter" in Ireland, a thug in a South American banana republic or a "political action" in Africa.
