My friend John Watson, who is a saxophone player, lives in a small terraced house so has the same problem. However, he has lined his understairs alcove/cupboard with absorbent material which he plays into to deaden the sound. He says he got the idea from the old jazz musicians in the US who used to stuff a mattress into the wardrobe and play into that.
