Love conquers all

Like the Seinfeld episodes, this screed is about nothing. Its about nothing in particular but everything meaningful in our lives. I call it love conquers all, because it stands for everything good that we wish would come true and the amazing examples of when they do. Feel free to tell us your joyous victory with love on your side. I can only serve to spread joy and hope.

I don't know if love is the equal opposite of hate but I would certainly hope not. I do know that it would be cynical in the extreme to argue against love conquering all. I'm betting love has an edge. Certainly in history and in my lifetime I have seen ongoing hate swing for the fences and get a home run now and then.

What still strikes me funny is that a hateful person rarely knows they are hateful. Like truly crazy people, they don't think they are crazy. They think they are morally great or more aware than everyone else. Like some kind of ultimate sports competition, the hate team says that love is a fantasyland and the reality is war. Love says we create human reality. History shows us time and again that hate will make them fall, and that love will conquer all. '

Today is day two of the great Haitian earthquake and a great worldwide outpouring of love is headed to the epicenter of stark human suffering and unmitigated agonizing pain. On the other hand we are warned of those who would take personal advantage of this disaster by making phony charities.. One person who has taken advantage repeatedly is Pat Robertson. He says the Haitian Earthquake is God's revenge on the Haitian slaves who revolted in 1791 and won their freedom but worshipped the devil. I guess it makes sense to him since he has a record of blaming disasters like hurricanes on God's revenge against gay people.

I don't think disasters are God's will. Insurance companies are happy to think so. You see they all have a contractual clause that says they don't have to pay you if the accident was God's will. The fancy term for this is Force Major. So officially for AIG and every other insurance company in the world, Haiti won't get a dime of insurance benefits since an earthquake is God's will.

Insurance companies have more authority of what is and what is not God's will than all the leaders of every religion on Earth. Faith is faith but God's will is exclusively for huge insurance company profits, and Insurance companies love their Godly scam. Of course God's will is usurped for religious wars as well.

I think its time for a change. I think insurance companies put up and shut up about blaming God. While there is an outpouring of love and support for disaster victims, insurance companies need to be put on the spot. Word has to get out!

Maybe our attempt to do so will only amount to a moral victory. All we can ever hope for is some small measure of good to done. A website? A blog? A full page ad? However these things are done are the domain of those who are good at it. All I am is a signpost saying "Love conquers all."
