Nice traditional version on Walter Pardon's 'A Country Life' album on Topic.
Beautiful American version on Texas Gladden album in the Lomax series.
Also on 'Early Ballads in Ireland as 'The Old Woman From Connor In Hell'
by Margaret Dunne of Cavan.

10 THERE WAS AN OLD WOMAN FROM CONNER IN HELL Ch. 278

1 There was an old woman from Conner in Hell"
Rightful tightful tiddy fol tay
There was an old woman from Conner in Hell (all verses similarly)
And if she's not dead she's living there still
With me rightful ta tiddv fal tay Rightful ay addy ay addy ay aye.

2 Sure, the oul devil himself came to her one day
And says 'Me oul' doll, will you come away?'

3 Then he peddled her up, right up on his back,
And like an oul feather he carried his sack.

4 He carried her on till he came to a stone
And he left her down and rattled her bones.

5 Then he peddled her up, right up on his back
And like an oul pedlar he carried his sack.

6 He carried her on till he came to Hell's gates,
He says 'Me oul' doll, will you have a seat."

7 There was ten little devils hung up in chains,
She lifted the stool and she knocked out their brains.

8 Sure the oul devil himself flew up on the wall
Saying Take her away, she will kill us all.'

9 Now she says 'You brought me here, ay, and you'll bring me back',
And like an oul pedlar he carried his sack.

10 Now he peddled her up, right up on his back,
And like an oul pedlar he carried his sack.

11 They were seven years going and seven going back,
She called for the scrapings she left in the pot.

12 Now they say that the women is worse than the men:
When they go down to hell they're shoved out again.
