What so many people overlook is that all governments, governmental agencies, political movements, etc., everywhere, are led by a combination of the ambitious, the crooked, the foolish, the greedy, the petty, the unimaginative, the incompetent (I could go on, but why bother?), with a leavening of decent, capable individuals, perhaps half of whom get one opportunity to do something truly constructive.

Before being overwhelmed by the rest.

This is a law of history. It's the nature of political groups, right, left, and in outer space. The alternative at this stage of civilization: complete Darwinian chaos, rather than the punctuated kind we have now.
