The mining version of "Fountain Filled With Blood" was written by my wife Joan Boyd Short and I produced and sang on the song for the "Music of Coal" Cd. I preferred to use Appalachian singers for the song and especially people who had a direct connection to coal mining and the musical culture. Rarely do people think of African-Americans in relation to the coalfields and rarely do these two distinct Appalachian musical traditions come together in one voice!!
