I didn't say 'none'- and many of those priests, etc. were killed for being a perceived threat to Stalin's power, not specifically because Stalin was atheist... You ARE correct that there were often layers of interlocking 'proxy' motives for murder, but The Troubles wasn't about atheism vs. religion, in any case. It did, though, use religious labels as a means of deciding who to shoot at.

Right now, the Hindus, Muslems, Sikhs...etc...in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh..etc., is 'about' religion, and historically, I can name many, many conflicts of that nature...and no doubt you can too.

Sadly, right now in the good 'ol USA, there are religious groups who WOULD do serious harm to 'unbelievers'. (You live on the West Coast? Good. I have been there. Nice area for tolerance in both directions..spend a year or two in Kansas or Alabama or Oklahoma or S. Carolina and see what real fundamentalism is capable of.)

In a decent world, people would leave each others beliefs alone and make decisions based on 'fairness' with no regard for religious preference--or lack of it.....but that ain't what we got.
