Tom HAD an earring. I think it got taken out during his heart surgery 6 years ago. I tried to put it back in for him, but I think the hole closed up.

Yeah, he NEEDS an earring. Just can't afford it right now. (Maybe a thought for a significant gift-giving occasion.)

At this point, I think one thread part is okay. New thread when he finally a) finishes with this blood infection thing, and b) is on track for the vocal cord procedure.
