Thread Name: Challenge: Parody of Blood-Red Roses
Subject: Challenge: Parody of Blood-Red Roses
I was "cheering up" a friend with a thread down in the BS section with a parody verse of the traditional shanty "Blood-Red Roses", reflecting on the hard economic times we find ourselves in. I'm wondering if there are other verses that come to mind from your own or imagined experiences. Here's my contribution:

My home theater system's all in pawn,
Go down, you bloodsucking bastards, go down!,/i>
And it's mighty drafty when the oil's all gone!
Go down, you bloodsucking bastards, go down!

Ohhhhh, you pimps and posers!
Go down, you bloodsucking bastards, go down!

Here's a version of the original shanty:

Blood-Red Roses

Me bon-nie bunch o' ro-ses-o!
Go down, ye blood-red roses, go down!
It's time for us to roll and go,
Go down, ye blood-red roses, go down!

Chorus:

Ohhhh, ye pinks and posies!
Go down, ye blood-red roses, go down!

Me boots an' clothes are all in pawn!...
And it's mighty drafty round Cape Horn...

We're bound away to Iquique Bay…
We're bound away at break of day…

'Tis growl ye may but go ye must…
Ye growl too hard, yer head they'll bust…

Oh, rock an' shake 'er is the cry…
The bleedin' topm'st sheave is dry…

Now, one more pull an' that'll do…
'Cause we're the lads to kick 'er through

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
