The first version I heard was the German version by Guildo Horn and the Orthopedic Socks, of which there are (at least) two variations.

In one, the verses are in German but the cheer/shout is in English, and this appears on several compilation CDs which contain little or no other vulgarity.

The other is entirely in German, with the shout softened to "Wer verdammt ist Alice?" ("Who the hell is Alice").

But the English version by Smokie is often heard there also, the group was quite popular there, as was Chris Norman solo.
