Then through the flying glare and frost
Young Stilly crossed the line
The Saint Bernard, one sled, five dogs,
And us was right behind.
We didn't care to chatter much,
Our hearts were ground away.
But we gladly stepped for a round
At the thirty-four of Kay.

Right now we ain't too talkative;
Jes' glad to be alive.
And no-one wants to think about
The path to Thirty Five.
But the day will come, when the dogs're healed
And we've bought another sleigh
Them as still survive will hit the trail
For the Thirty Five of Kay.
