Residents of Newfoundland are waking up to 45 cm of newly fallen snow.

In St John's, many schools, businesses and government offices were closed yesterday.

High winds and blowing snow made travelling difficult.

Flights were cancelled in and out of St. John's and busses were ordered off the roads Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a huge blizzard is blowing through Washington D-C!

Residents of the U.S. Capital are hunkering down for the weekend as 70 cm of snow is expected.

Snow is expected from Baltimore to northern Virginia and parts of West Virginia.

Forecasters are expecting a mix of heavy snow and strong winds which they say will make travel ``very hazardous or nearly impossible.''
