Getting back to the curry theme ;
                It hasn't always been THAT popular in the UK ! During WW2, in 1945 I think, there was nearly a serious mutiny aboard the aircraft carrier HMS Formidable,part of the British Pacific Fleet. There were several "issues " for which the blame was attributed to the ship's (hugely unpopular) Captain,one of which involved the introduction of curry to the ship's daily menu---in those days,sailors collected their food from the Galley,and took it back to the mess-deck to dish out and eat.
       On their first encounter with a curry, many refused to eat it,one of them commenting that it looked like " a load of spew !" (vomit). However,with the passage of time,it has become slightly more popular !!
