In a word, yes; Toyota management may not be blameless in this, by any means. But this has been blown up to immensity in the media, and at the most it's comparable to numerous safety issues that have come up over the years with domestic cars. When you pocket the key fob, it's almost certain to lock up the car doors, so they're locked even if you just step out to get something from the car in the garage. I filed down a protrusion on the lock button on the fob, but it still happens.
