Returning to human herds, TSO and I travelled up to Edinburgh on an OXFAM arranged coach. Travelled all night and arrived at the Meadow well before anything really started. This gave us some time to relax after the trip and just sit and people watch and wander about and visit stalls.
It was remarkable how many elderly people were on the coach and coming off other coaches and walking around at the event. I mean by elderly 70+. Funny going up, we were all quite shy and quiet, but too keyed up to really sleep. Going back, everyone was so excited and yet exhausted. We talked until we finally petered out.
TSO and I made a banner prior to going. It was stretched across two curtain poles and had messages both front and back. On one side Make Poverty History and Fair Trade not Free Trade. The other side had a blown up picture of an emaciated child. The message was "This a child, not a statistic." Or something like that.
Marching was made so much easier by being in hearing range of SheBoom all female drum band from Glasgow. The collective energy was thrilling.
I want to go on another demonstration. Need that connection with strangers all met in good cause. Just don't think I am physically capable of it now. bummer.
