The skunk was returning home, which is how he was spotted by Stinky - er, Bandit, in the first place. I think the skunk went to bed feeling smug: "Hah! Take that, stupid dog!"

As for whether Bandit learned anything from the experience, we'll have to wait and see. He is a very clever dog, but he does have a strong prey drive. His predecessor, Clancy, was sprayed once and avoided skunks forever more. Our terrier Donald took it personally and declared a lifelong vendetta against all skunks. Hopefully Bandit takes after Clancy, but I have a feeling it'll probably be Donald he'll be more like. Oh, well. Could be worse, could've been a porcupine he tangled with and instead of being merely stinky for a period of time, we'd have an enormous vet bill to deal with.

Well, off to take Stinky for a walk.
