Re: Lysistrata. I read it in the original and it was hysterical. Mt. Holyoke updated it with some really funny results. EG: The messenger came in dressed as a FEDEX man complete with sign in board and a wad of gum. The highlight of the evening was the appearance of the whore, played by a professor from the Art Department who also teaches exotic dancing. She did not have on a stitch of clothes and was pierced and shaved. The phallic scene looked like "Pigs in Space" - shiny, glittery...Anything but tasteful but that was the point - no?

Actually I had a hard time holding my brother down during the "gourd ritual" scene. His little girl looked to him to be having too much fun.

Did you ever see that dreadful cowboy musical done in the 40s based on "Lysistrata"? All I can remember is a chorus of gingham clad Annie Oakleys screaming "Lysistraaaaaata, Lysistraaaaaaata" at the tops of their lungs. Smiling now?
