The term "rock music" is pretty meaningless in the 21st Century. Probably even more so than the term "folk music". Within a few minutes walk of my home I can visit half a dozen bars that play "rock" music in the background - but each play a different sort of music. There are two I particularly like: Dulcimer tends to play psychedelia, folk-rock, acid folk, alt-folk and americana; Argylls has a classic dukebox with punk, post-punk, indie, garage rock etc. Others differ again. Horses for courses. At least its not big screen wall-to-wall sports TV, so there's something to be thankful for...

Persoanlly, though some of my favourite singers are from North East England, the thought of sitting in a bar that plays wall-to-wall High Level Ranters, Keelers, Johnny Handle and so on every night sends a shudder down my spine. Give me variety or give me a different bar!
