I don't know why I haven't a phobia about bathrooms as my eldest sister told me Daleks lived behind the door.( we're talking old house- big really long and narrow bathroom-no place to hide)
Then at bathtime (once a week whether you needed it nor not) my Dad would sing this to me-
" My baby went down the plughole
My baby went down the plug
The poor little thing
was so skinny & thin
it should have been washed in a jug.
I turned my back
to get soap from the rack
but by then my baby was gone"

Different words - chlorine would only have been used in swimming
baths then & certainly no happy angels telling us baby was O.K!
Sung to "My bonnie lies over the ocean" though.
Even darker is the theory that this mother's lament is about
miscarriage, or worse, illegal abortion.
