yes, if I remember correctly, the 'miracle cleaning' goo used to seep
into the micro gap between the lense and the metal barrel..
being a right bugger to remove,
with at last resort, pins and tweezers
after it had set and torn off from the rest of the gluey coating.

..just what an expensive nikkor telephoto required.
