I didn't take much notice of it at the time, although I did like his music reasonably well. I bought several of his albums in the early 70s. Some of his lyrics were quite interesting, and I always loved the cover art on "Axis: Bold as Love".

The musician's death that really hit me was when John Lennon was killed in 1980. That was quite a shock.
