My debit card says "Debit" on it, and also "Pocket Check". And it has the bank's initials in big letters on the front of it, and the bank's full name up in the upper left corner, and down in the lower right corner, just below the word "Debit, it says "VISA". I'm not entirely sure how it works, but it's a card that is issued by my bank, and can only be used to transfer funds into or out of my bank account, or purchase items using funds from my bank account, is a debit card and not a credit card, but still is somehow connected to the Visa credit card people.

As I said before, this is a Canadian bank. But maybe even though it's a Canadian bank, its US branches do things differently than its Canadian branches.
