Subject: RE: Listening to music with your whole body
I remember going to a party in Muswell Hill in London around 40 years ago. One of the young guys at the party had a profoundly deaf wife who was dancing away to the music. At one point I asked her how she could get the rhythm of the music, and she smiled and pointed to the floor. "Through my feet" was the reply.

On a similar tack, the bass player in a trio I played with for many years had a day job as an audiologist - a scientist who specialised in the technology of sound - at the London ENT Hospital. He was invited professionally to a school in the Midlands to do specialist tests on a group of young, deaf musicians, and was amazed particularly at the abilities of one of the girls who was a percussionist. Not Evelyn Glennie of course, but someone who demonstrated similar abilities.

It's not an unusual occurrence to hear with our bodies. Play a guitar close to your stomach (a necessity in my case!) and you can feel not only the vibrations but something akin to pitch resonating inside you.
