Doesn't work very well in prairie Canada.

We have more strawberries when the California harvests are at a peak, but Mexican strawberries are around most of the rest of the year, at only slightly more. Seldom see Canadian (B. C.) strawberries.

Fresh peas from California, with Canadian available at summer peak; must go to the farmers' markets to get these and other vegetables but no real bargains on the prairies.
'Pickyerown' scarce in cold Alberta, also time and gas costs should be factored in.

My son in SW British Columbia is within reach of seasonal bargains, but unless one wants quantity, not much point in spending the time to go to them. Most farmers markets sell small quantities at prices higher than the supermarkets. The only advantage is freshness.

Canned vegetables and fruits occasionally on sale, have to watch the advs. Unless they are on sale along with the rest of the groceries, the 'bargain' is lost when gas and time are involved.
