The news media are interested in extreme positions and extreme statements (of any kind), conflict, innuendo, violence, crime, scandal, outrage, and other bullshut of that sort...anything that will get their jaded viewers to tune in.

It sounds like the Ann Coulter event in Western Canada would have been pretty disappointing from their point of view... ;-) Not the hate-fest they were hoping for.
