Thread Name: Lyr Add: Glad That I Live Am I (L W Reese)
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Glad That I Live Am I (L W Reese)
We sang this at infant school in the fifties and early sixties but I remember slightly different words:

Glad that I live am I
That the sky is blue
Glad for the country lanes
and the fall of dew
After the sun the rain
After the rain the sun
This is the way of life
'til our days be done
All that we see and do be it low or high
Is to see that we grow nearer the sky.

It only occurred to me as an adult that it has a message about life apart from being a country hymn. We have periods of sun and rain throughout our lives, one following the other. And everything we encounter and all our actions ultimately allow us to grow nearer Godhead.

Apart from that it's a very positive and uplifting song. It had a profound influence in my formative years - I loved singing it - and it's probably responsible for my lifelong optimism!
