A rat trap is the idea that appealed to me as I own dogs. Poison will only cause the rats to stagger around until dead, at this point they are caught by the dogs and it kills them.
I caught a rat in the trap, took it for a ride in the car and let it go. It did not enjoy the ride but at least I didn't kill it,or my dogs.
