Our cleaner can be counted on to put anything left on the kitchen counter in the oddest possible places, so the kitchen must be tidy before she comes. Likewise shoes and boots left in the front hall -- if I don't put them where they belong, she will stash them. If I ever find them again, it's purely by accident.

Besides, I want the cleaner to spend her time doing the stuff I hate to do and don't have time for -- i.e., vacuuming and washing floors, and scrubbing bathroom fixtures. That means doing the tidying up myself.
