I don't recognise that from any of the sessions I've recently started to attend.

If there's a guest on, then a lot of people will be there specifically for the guest, but on the normal singarounds that I go to, everyone is interested in what everyone else is playing or singing. With the exception of one place I went to one time where there seemed to be a rift between accompanied and unaccompanied, the two "sides" barely tolerating one another. I only went once.
