hi
I am not a gambler. Just never been interested since as an 18 year old I worked in a village where a bookie called regularly to collect bets left with the landlord of the village pub.
He was a very heavy drinker and when in his cups he used to brag about how much money he made at the various horse race meetings.
I never really believed him until one night when I laughed at him he took me out to his car ( a daimler !!) and in the boot there was literally thousands a pounds. This was about forty years ago so work it out for yourselves how much by today's values that would be.
So I never bet. There is only one winner!!
My wife does on very odd occasions - but sensible amounts. Yesterday she had her usual Grand National Flutter and selected about six horses. One was the winnner !! So today we called in at the bookies to collect £43.62p for a stake of £20.
She is usually quite lucky when she bets - she knows nothing about horses !!
