Acorn 4 You will be interested to know that in our lane is a Greyhound Racing trainer and on Sunday Mornings the so called owners turn up to take their dogs for a walk. Normally up the lane and back.
Greyhounds are lovely dogs (apart from cat owners) and many sadly turn up on Greyhound Rescue. They make lovely pets ,but the majority of the Sunday lot are not interested once they stop racing. The ones that are walked by the trainers I enjoy looking at their construction and gait and it is interesting to ask how certain ones I pick out are doing.
The current large trainers I understand have contracts with stadiums to race their dogs which I was not aware of.
When I was a T Lad the 77A Bus used to go from Battersea to Merton Road Wandsworth where my school was situated and went on route past the Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium and it was always interesting from the top deck to see the dogs over the fence.
It was a constant rumour that the girls who used to load the dogs into the starting stalls gave the ones they didn't want to win a sharp squeeze on a couple of spheres near to hand.
It would certainly slow me down.
