Akin to the case some years ago when a company where I worked decided to add a paid holiday, so that married employees could have their spouses' birthdays free to celebrate.

When one employee complained that he was not married and was thus denied equal leave time, he was told (in a written memo) "You can just take your mother-in-law's birthday off instead of your wife's."
