However, the Bedford Bambi is also very very slow and not very stable in cross-winds (as well as not having, for reasons of space, cassette toilet or shower). Don't even think of flinging it at a corner on an adverse camber, and the engines and gearboxes tend to disintegrate too.

I'd suggest instead the campervan versions of teh Citroen C15D: a much better drive. If you fit the 1.7 or 1.9 turbodiesel versions of the same engine it will go pretty adequately and still do 50mpg.
