The words were first written as a poem called A MILE AN' A BITTOCK by Robert Louis Stevenson (1887). Alan Reid, a member of The Battlefield Band, set it to music and added a chorus. The Battlefield Band recorded it under the title SHINING CLEAR on their album "There's a Buzz" (1982). Other than the chorus, I believe The Battlefield Band sang exactly what Stevenson wrote.

The version in the DT, called AND THE MOON SHONE BRIGHT AND CLEARLY is full of errors. I wouldn't recommend using it.
