Back from the festival, and our lovely wedding! It was hard work leading up to it as we basically did it all ourselves, but in the end, we had a lot of good friends who helped us pull it together. Bilbo and Lainey from the festival were a big help. They provided a tent and a gazebo at the back of the "Workshop Cabin" at the festival, and Black Joak Morris put up a very large tarp, where we had the reception. It was all decorated in shades of white, lavender and purple, and looked gorgeous!
The Wheeze and Suck Band provided the music, and a friend, Jenny Lees, sang a song she had written for me. My daughter Sammi, and freda underhill were my bridesmaids. My son gave me away, my grandson was the pageboy, and another friend Butch, stood in as best man after my brother was marooned in London because of the volcano and couldn't make it.
Just as well we had cover, as the weather was changeable at first, and just as my son's fiancee was reading the Apache Blessing and saying "now you will feel no rain", it was pouring down. But we all stayed dry. I've been told that rain is supposed to bring good luck, tho I'm not superstitious. I think we'll have plenty of that anyway!
The wedding also involved a handfasting, and we jumped the broom and walked out with Black Joak Morris forming a guard of honour. After that, there was more dancing by Black Joak, and Rob danced a jig. Our friend Arch Bishop put on a BBQ, and as well as the usual grog, there was punch which Rob had made. It went down VERY well, and of course we all had to sing "Fathom the Bowl"
The weather cleared up for the rest of the time, and as we had hoped, the reception turned into a good folkie session and kept on going well into the night. We were so glad we did this at a festival - St Albans has always been my favourite little festival too. It was very special to have all our folkie friends there and taking part!
Rob has set up a page on Flickr for photos from the wedding. We want anyone who took photos of the wedding to join and add theirs. They can be seen here:
