Could I look in your eyes, I'd hope to find
A muse to hold my weary heart in thrall.
Such I might dream: Yet, would I with dreams bind
Soul to another, when I Past recall?
Might I know more of you, to understand
All you might ask, and what you might refuse?
Raise not my hopes, that heart might heart demand,
Except that you would hearts and souls yet fuse.
Keep what I offer clear: I do not know
Enough to know where these desires might lead.
Let time and conversation serve to show,
Least I my dreams into your words might read.
Echos of past show paths I dare not go:
Yet I would know if you might fill my need.
