the person who started this thread referred to this as Irish song. Indeed, I first heard this song as:

Give us a sup of your Irish brew
We've been dry for a week or more
Give us a drop like you did before!

I suspect, however that in this case the Irish version derived from an American one. Anyone have any further information?
