thanks. i'm the one who posted the orginal message. i forgot to put my email address: sixwatergrog (at) gmail.com. best to email me directly if you're interested in playing some tunes.
i know jim mahone - i used to go to a jam he attends. i'm kinda looking for a practice partner - someone either more advanced or also a beginner - with whom I can slowly play tunes without it having to be in a public setting or session format. nothing against that, but i learn tunes from sheet music and tablature. at the public jams tunes are sometimes played too fast and unless you know how to play the tune, as a beginner, there's not much you can do besides listen. i haven't developed the ability to play by ear, or even pick out the chords and fakebooks are frowned upon usually. it would be nice to play in a setting where it's OK to mess up a tune, or disect/talk about it, and practice it over and over again, rather than just whizz through them one after another.
i will check out the richmond folk music facebook. thanks for that link.
