Sonnet 26/11/00                                    CDLXXXIX

I would rather cry, than be uncaring:
I cannot not care, and still call you friend.
Yet I call you my muse: Would my heart end
All hope for future verse? Is my sharing
Sadness such a crime? I would have you know
That sadness shared is halved: Love shared is squared,
For giving multiplies. Yet has heart dared
To balance dreams against what your words show?
All that I know does not explain the power
The thought of you controls. I did not seek
To hold more than your smile, but find I speak
In words perhaps more suited to some bower.
I wish for all of Love: Mind, body, soul,
But know that Time has of me taken toll.
