There's a lot of "maybe" in the article -- yes, maybe it's a script. It may have to do with a spoken language. The knots may be part of the script.

Perhaps they will find a pictish Rosetta Stone. If not I don't how if any putative decoding of the putative script could be anything but conjecture.
