Thread Name: Chippenham Folk Fest - who's going
Subject: RE: Chippenham Folk Fest - who's going
There will as usual be a full programme of 'Songshops', which I'm co-ordinating again this year. Really looking forward to these:

Saturday 1000: Straight from the Source: Roy Harris presents some of his favourite recordings of traditional singing, lets us in on his matchless knowledge of the singers, and discusses with Brian Peters why they're so wonderful.

Saturday 1200: Travellers' Treasure: Sam Lee talks about the continuing song tradition of the Gypsies and their singing style,
while Pete Coe tells of his collecting exploits with travellers in
Cornwall - expect live performances and fascinating recordings.

Sunday 1000: Songs to Dance For: Jigjaw lead a vocal harmony workshop in which you can learn to sing - in parts - some of the songs they use to accompany dancing, with a preview of some of the dances themselves. An excellent taster for their evening event.

Sunday 1200: The Transatlantic Tradition: Jeff Warner and Debby
McClatchy present songs from North America having their roots in
British tradition, with Brian Peters on hand to provide some English
parallels.

Monday 1000: Icelandic Harmony Singing: A unique, participatory and multimedia workshop, in which Bara Grimsdottir and Chris Foster invite you to sing in the unique Icelandic quintsong style going back to the Vikings. Suitable for male and female voices, all ages and abilities - prior knowledge of the language not required!

Monday 1200: Interpretation, Interpretation, Interpretation... Roger
Watson, The Claque and Brian Peters have been working independently on a song new to all of them, and will be comparing the results while
discussing instrumental and vocal arrangements in general.
