Murray, I completely agree. With this sort of thing, played by the people you mention, I can hear lots of notes, but I really struggle to hear any actual *music*.

I have have never met any of these people, so I may be about to do them a huge dis-service, but I do get the impression of men (it's always men) trying to impress by saying, in effect, 'Look how clever I am', listened to by people who are impressed by such cleverness.

But I still can't hear any feeling, any personal expression, any pathos, any beauty, any music.
