My own person relationship to this music? I don't know diddly about it but I love it. I lived in Seattle next to the Russian Orthodox church..and periodically I would be awakened to this type of music...and in the building..this was early 70s..there were many old Russians who had escaped the Russian revolution somehow...coming through China or wherever..many stories I did not ask for clarifications of and in accents I could not understand. But in the 70s there was talk all the time of revolution..and these old people were terrified it would be like it was before.

Also I think I was Ukranian in a previous life and taken out and shot in a field. I get like flashbacks now and then. Strongest when I was in Winnepeg of course.

Also, we have people here..one who said his German father died in Russia...probably many other sad stories on all sides.

I think the only thing that will help us all is not studying the history of the great wars etc. but listening story by story by story and putting names to some of this. I could tell you connections I know about here on Mudcat but it is not for me to say.

And of course we have had huge numbers of Russian and neighboring countries immigrate to my part of the world in recent years...some might be here... mg
