It was halfway through September when Geordie caught a cold.
He could not shake it off and poor George was getting old.
The doctor took his temperature and packed him off to bed
Just stay there for a day or two, you'll be alright he said

The autumn leaves were falling when poor Geordie give up the fight,
And was called before the Chairman of that grand club up the height.

That night the club was silent and the barmaid shed a tear
The darts team called their match off and they hardly drank their beer
The chairman called a meeting when he heard of Geordie's death
We must all attend the funeral and the club will send a wreath

They buried him at Benton that's just by Forest Hall
Him tombstones for all too see just by the graveyard wall
And written on that tombstone in a hand that's clear and true
Beneath the letters R.I.P., three more say C.I.U.

Cos Geordie was a clubman, a clubman til the end
And when he died that autumn day, all clubland lost a friend
But what one lost another gained, cos that day in September
The secretary up a height, signed on a brand new member
